This book analyzes the influence of Islam and the Arabic language on modern Turkish.

Although Arabic and Turkish stem from entirely different language families Arabic has had great influence on Turkish. Not only do loan words often carry over their morphological patterns Arabic also introduces aspects of word gender, irregular plurals, and the definite article–all of which are alien to pure Turkish.

For the student of Turkish as a second language, treating Arabic influence as a separate subject may be more helpful than subsuming it into Turkish grammar as the source of multiple incomprehensible exceptions.
